A little kazoo Christmas cheer from the Inside Serenaders’ 13th Night celebrations:
More lovely videos, this time from November 2025’s Inside Serenaders 2.
Here’s a bit of The Low Anthem’s Charlie Darwin (thanks to Iona Chisholm for the video):
And here’s Bob Dylan’s Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door getting the upbeat Serenader treatment (thanks, Iona Chisholm again):
It’s time the video page was updated. Here are a few random ones from 2025, some from our first time as the Inside Serenaders with a roof over our head in the marvellous upstairs room at the King’s Head in Lichfield in front of an invited audience, one or two out on the street in various formats, and a couple at Emily Serenader’s 70th birthday party:
First: Charlie Chaplin’s classic Smile, sung by Kate Serenader.
Second: the traditional song Rain & Snow, with Kate Serenader and A J Olly Tyrant sharing the lead vocals.
Third: You Are My Sunshine with a couple of late-arriving Serenaders at the end:
Fourth: Loudon Wainwright’s Swimming Song:
What link is there between Samuel Johnson and Oklahoma? Well, according to a bit I’ve just read on the Cambridge University Press website, “the sublime and the beautiful… are among Johnson’s most frequently recurring doublets” He clearly wouldn’t have used that particular “doublet” if he’d ever heard The Wayside Serenaders’ version of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic from the 1943 musical. Many thanks as always to Andy for the vid:
Here’s a smelly one from our performance at a Winter Garden Party. Many thanks to Andy for the iphone video work:
Another from the Winter Garden Party. This time it’s Wayfaring Stranger. There are countless interpretations of this beautiful song around and I stole the general mood of the piece from the Scandinavian bluegrass band Hayde. The opening and closing bits are filched from a string arrangement on Charlie Haden’s moving version on his Quartet West album, The Art of Song:
Here’s our closing number from our first gig, a private garden party in the Derbyshire countryside, courtesy of Sean and Helen:
